Bahrain won the membership of the Human Rights Council for 2019-2021 in the elections held at the General Assembly of the United Nations yesterday with 165 votes. The Assistant Foreign Minister, Abdulla Al Doseri, last night extended his sincere congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister and to the people of Bahrain.

He said that since His Majesty the King’s accession to power, many human rights achievements have emerged following the signing of the National Action Charter (NAC) which deepened the rich cultural heritage of the Kingdom and consolidated the rule of law, the integrity of the judiciary and its independence as a basis for governance in the Kingdom of Bahrain. He said the NAC is one of the most important pillars of the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

He added that the Constitution and laws of the Kingdom guaranteed a fair trial in accordance with international standards, which established unity and protected the values of peace and tolerance. The Assistant Foreign Minister said that the Kingdom’s advancement over other nations in many areas is evident in its outstanding efforts in development, health, housing, security and other services to boost the quality and outcomes of education, bridge gender gap and achieve the highest standards of a healthy environment.
