The National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) has affirmed that Bahrain’s markets are free of the contaminated cough syrup made in India, from which the World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned due to the unsafe materials it contains.

In a statement, the NHRA indicated that the aforementioned cough syrup is not registered in the Kingdom, and therefore it has not been imported to the Bahraini market, stressing that it does not allow the entry of any products that are not manufactured in approved and registered factories in the Kingdom.

The NHRA also confirmed its keenness on the safety of medicines and pharmaceuticals circulating in the Kingdom, as Bahrain adopts strict measures to ensure the health, safety, and efficiency of all medicines, in a manner that guarantees the preservation of the health and safety of the citizens and residents.

In this context, the NHRA said that it is following up on the latest developments in this regard, noting that it is in constant contact with the pharmaceutical authorities and health services in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries regarding medicines and their safety.
