217 illegal taxi drivers arrested in 2016

Manama : 217 illegal taxi drivers of various nationalities were arrested in 2016, according to the General Directorate of Traffic.

After referring to the Public Prosecutor, those arrested were sentenced to jail with a BD1,000 fine. The non-Bahrainis among them were deported.

“The department will continue to monitor such violations that puts the livelihood of registered Bahraini taxi drivers at risk. It would also continue to organise campaigns to act against violators in cooperation with security directorates and the authorities concerned,” a statement said.
