Morricone’s film music gets a jazz makeover in Bahrain

Some of Ennio Morricone’s best-known film scores received a fresh jazz treatment at the 35th Bahrain International Music Festival.

The Patrizio Destriere Quartet performed Portrait of Ennio: The Jazz Side of Ennio Morricone at the Cultural Hall, in cooperation with the Italian Embassy in Bahrain.

Saxophonist Patrizio Destriere was joined by pianist Fernando Ramsés Peña Díaz, double bassist Giordano Panizza and drummer Giacomo Di Bona. The programme featured music from Metti, una sera a cena, Cinema Paradiso, The Legend of 1900, Un Sacco Bello and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

The quartet reworked the familiar compositions through jazz arrangements, combining solo passages, ensemble performances and live electronic effects while retaining the character of Morricone’s originals.

The concert was part of the 35th edition of the Bahrain International Music Festival.
