A 26 year old man has been sentenced to three years in prison for stealing two mobile phones from a restaurant office and threatening staff with a knife.

According to police, the man entered the premises around 8:30am. A staff member who had just arrived saw him stepping out of the office and into the corridor.

When questioned, the suspect responded in Arabic. The staff member, not fluent in the language, assumed he was asking for directions.

But when challenged, the man pulled out a knife and fled. Police later identified and arrested him using CCTV footage. The knife was recovered and seized by court order.

Investigations also revealed he had a prior theft case on record.
