Manama : Preparations are underway for the Fourth School Mini Olympics, which is scheduled to take place in March this year, following the first coordination meeting of the organising committee and representatives of sports federations.
It will be organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and will involve schools from across the kingdom.
Competitions will be held in various events including table tennis, athletics, aquathlon, triathlon, volleyball, 3-on-3 basketball, swimming and jiu jitsu.
Organising Committee chairman Lounes Madene chaired the meeting, which was also attended by BOC representatives Fadi Humaidman, Mamoon Al Khateeb and Rashid Ebrahim. The meeting revealed an initiative to invite GCC National Olympic Committees to take part in some of the Mini Olympics events this year, including table tennis, jiu jitsu, swimming and aquathlon.
The School Mini Olympics aims to promote the concept of public health and creating a competitive sports environment among students, spreading knowledge and physical education among the younger generation and promoting the principles of Olympic values.
