Six Bahraini artists and three performers have succeeded in capturing public imagination at the prestigious Venice Biennale. The performances took place at Arsanale, a historic complex of industrial sites dating back to 1303. The delegation was led by Kaneka Subberwal, the founder of Art Select and Fairs & Programme Director of ArtBAB.

The special preview was received very well and there was also an interaction with students from the IUAV and the Accademia Della Belle Arti, two of the most prominent universities for the arts in Venice. The show titled ‘The Wait’, feature around 20 works of artists Hasan Hujairi, Ghada Khunji, ‘Bahraini Danish’, a Bahraini-Danish art cooperative, Mariam Al Noaimi, Nasser Al Yousif and Hala Kaiksow.

The collection of 20 artworks was curated by Kaneka, Amal Khalaf, a London-based artist and curator and Tasneem Al Shurougi, a founding member of the team that launched Art Bahrain Across Borders in 2015. Separately, Kaneka and Rasha Sabt of Tamkeen were received by the Mayor of Venice Luigi Brugnaro who commended the Bahraini-Venetian artistic interface.
