The Northern Municipality has impounded a total of 96 cars in Hamala area in three days as part of their campaign to "clean" the place and reduce vehicles being abandoned.

Authorities have repeatedly been pleading with people to share the responsibility in preserving the environment through better traffic regulations.

"Leaving cars on the roads cause many environmental damage and confuses traffic in some roads," they said. Such vehicles also disrupt the security in the area in addition to distorting public view.

The municipality emphasized that it will intensify their campaigns of dealing with neglected vehicles through awareness-raising as well as alerting owners to not neglect their cars located in residential and industrial areas. The need for public cooperation with the authorities is essential to eradicate this practice and violators will be prosecuted.
