The High Appeals Court has upheld the sentence issued against two men convicted of robbing BD1,100 from an Asian man after posing as police officers. The pair were earlier sentenced to 15 years behind bars each, but a set of different judges at the High Appeals Court reduced their jail terms to 10 years behind bars each on appeal. Subsequently, the Cassation Court ordered a re-trial.

Later, the High Appeals Court, under a different judicial panel, upheld the sentences against them. It’s said that the pair tracked their victim after leaving a bank in Isa Town, after which they posed as police officers and kidnapped him. “They robbed BD1,100, which I had as well as my phone after they eye-folded me and tied my hands using a plastic wrap.

“They dragged me into their car and they disposed me in a remote area,” the victim told prosecutors. It’s claimed that the pair were involved in robbing three other places, from which they pocketed a total amount of BD9,000. The duo were identified following police investigations and they admitted to their crimes.
