Manama : A first-of- its-kind forum on Scientific Research in Sports Economics in Bahrain is all set to begin today.

Organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), the forum continues until May 5, and is held at Wyndham Grand Hotel at Bahrain Bay, Manama.

This event is part of the Nasser bin Hamad Scientific Research Award in the field of sports, launched in 2012 by HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and BOC President.

It will be run by some of the Arab region’s experienced speakers, including Head of the Physical Education Sector at the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities in Egypt Dr Mohamed Sobhi Hassanein, who kicks off today’s session at 9.30am with his presentation that focuses on recommendation to increase funding sources to boost Arab Olympic achievements.

The second theme of the day will be about economic and sports investment (mutual benefit), to be presented by Jordan Olympic Committee vice-president Dr Sari Hamdan, and is scheduled to commence at 11.45am.

Late on, Dr Hazzaa bin Mohammed Al Hazzaa of Saudi Arabia’s Emeritus professor and former director of Pediatric Exercise Physiology Research Lab at King Saud University will bring today’s third theme on selection of talents in the field of sports.

The remaining themes will be brought on the following two days by Dr Ammar Al Rifai of Saudi Arabia, Dr Ahmed bin Saad Al Sharif of the UAE and Dr Wesam Al Shaikhli of Iraq.
