Riffa defeated Al Ahli 2-0 last night in Week 15 of the 2021/2022 Nasser bin Hamad Bahrain Premier Football League. Mohammad Suleiman Anez and Mohammed Al Romaihi scored on either side of halftime to help the defending champions claim the all-important win.

Both teams were reduced to 10 men in the contest. Riffa were able to capture the crucial three points as they stretched their lead atop the league standings to five points with just three matchdays to go. Their closest challengers Manama had on Friday narrowed the gap to just two points, but following their 11th victory in 15 games yesterday, Riffa improved to 37 markers in first place.

Al Ahli suffered their sixth loss and stayed on 15 points in the bottom half of the league table. Anez scored for Riffa in the 28th minute with a header from inside the box. Marhoon Jassim Marhoon had his curling free-kick come off the cross bar, and it bounced right into the path of Anez, who was able to anticipate the ball in the air and head it home into an open net with Ahli goalkeeper Mohammed Yousif unable to recover from his initial save attempt.
