Police are investigating a “racist” attack after a group of women allegedly ripped off a Muslim woman’s hijab as she was on her way to collect her children from school.

Three women allegedly attacked the young mother “for wearing a headscarf” as she walked to an Islamic primary school in the south of London.

The incident occurred after the women allegedly asked if she was hot wearing the headscarf. The women then allegedly started “shouting and hurling abuse”.

The mother, who wished to remain anonymous, told the daily, "They pulled my head scarf off and started punching and kicking me.

"One was dragging my head down while the others were hitting me. They were being so racist and using derogatory terms," She said.

The woman was left with whiplash and chucks of hair missing from the attack, but did not suffer significant physical harm.

Officers were called to the scene and two women, aged 18 and 35 were arrested on suspicion of assault and a racially aggravated public order offence.
