Minister discusses BIA modernisation project

Transportation and Telecommunication Minister, Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, chaired a meeting of the Coordinative Committee for the Bahrain International Airport (BIA)'s 11th modernisation and development project.

The minister met the representatives of the Civil Aviation Affairs in the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication (MTT), Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), Ministry of Interior (MoI), Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs Ministry (MoW), Electricity and Water Authority (EWA), and reviewed the project's latest developments.

He said all the relevant tenders for all project jobs had been received and work was proceeding according to preset plan for preparatory jobs.

Meanwhile, piling jobs had already begun, and the (sub-)contractors who will assume various jobs in the project, including baggage, bridges, ICT and security systems, alongside with main contractor, will be appointed in February 2016.

The minister said the expansion of Bahrain International Airport will increase its intake capacity to 14 million passengers to join the ranks of major airports in the region and open investment opportunities in the local market in terms of construction contracts and importation of the requisite materials to develop the airport.
