Locked inside a car, robbed, and dumped on the street — an Asian man was held down and stripped of BD250 in what prosecutors described as a planned attack.

The High Criminal Court heard the case on Monday, with an African defendant accused of being part of the assault.

He denied the charges, while his lawyer requested a delay until 24 February to review case papers.

Lawyer

A replacement lawyer stood in for Reem Al Mahari.

Prosecutors said the defendant, along with an unidentified accomplice, took the money by force while inside a vehicle on a public road.

The victim was blocked from leaving, restrained, and struck in the forehead before his wallet was taken.

Street

The cash was handed to the second suspect, and the victim was pushed out onto the street as the pair sped off.

The victim told investigators he had taken a ride in the car, driven by the accused, along with another man he did not know. They were meant to be heading to a currency exchange, but the driver did not stop at the right place.

Markets

Instead, he pulled up behind a row of markets, where the passenger got out.

The driver then claimed to have found a bundle of cash the man had left behind and told the victim to stay put and keep quiet until he returned.

When the victim said he wanted to leave, the driver locked the doors.
