Logistics to take a big leap

Manama : The Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications Kamal Ahmed yesterday revealed plans to enhance developments in the logistics sector in Bahrain.

The minister was speaking at an online press conference held to announce a high-level logistics conference at the end of this month.

The move, according to the minister, is aimed at maximising Bahrain’s potential to serve as a ‘logistical hub’ for regional and international players.

The event, organised by Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications in collaboration with TransCare GmbH- based in Germany, will be held at The Ritz-Carlton on 26 and 27, this month. The conference will see the participation of experts from all around the globe.

On Bahrain’s effort to boost the sector, the minister said, “The logistics industry is important to us because the sector aids in the development of all other sectors as well.” In this regard, the minister also pointed out that the Bahrain logistics board was formed to propel this idea ahead.

“Apart from me, Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Khalid Al Rumaihi Chief Executive to the Economic Development Board, Salman Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Director General at the Office of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Shaikh Ahmed Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the President of Customs are part of the committee,” Kamal Ahmed added.

Further highlighting the benefits of the conference, the minister said that the event will help us interact with our target audience, investors and the private sector organisations in the region and beyond.

Meanwhile, explaining the conference agenda, Ralf Jahncke, CEO of TransCare GmbH said, “We have several sessions to explore the current scenario of global logistics as well as its future.”

“Experts will talk about the supply chain scenario in Bahrain, Saudi and the GCC region. We will have a very interesting session about global shipping trends on the first day of the conference,” he said.
