Former U.S. President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, according to a statement from his personal office.

The 82-year-old was recently evaluated after experiencing urinary symptoms, which led to the discovery of a prostate nodule. He was subsequently diagnosed with a high-grade form of prostate cancer. Although serious, the cancer is hormone-sensitive, allowing for potentially effective treatment options. Biden is currently reviewing these options with his medical team.

The former president is at his home in Wilmington, Delaware, where he is resting and receiving care. Leaders across the political spectrum have extended messages of support and well-wishes for his recovery.

Prostate cancer is common in older men, and while Biden’s diagnosis is advanced, medical experts note that modern therapies offer hope for managing the disease and improving quality of life.
