Flights to Chennai from Bahrain have resumed after it was interrupted because of the flooding in the south Indian city.
Flooding in Chennai had halted the operations at the Chennai airport last week. Despite being peak time of travel to Chennai and India, travellers from Bahrain had to wait for a week for flights to Chennai.
Several days of closure had to be enforced as the airport’s boundary wall got damaged at 17 locations when water entered.
Indian Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Ganapathy Raju had inspected the airport on Monday. “Normalcy is already there. Only airlines have to take a call,” he told Indian media. Fencing was done to repair the damage parts of the wall, he said. “For now, fencing has been done in those 17 spots to at least prevent the entry of animals into the runway.” Raju said.
In Bahrain, however, it seems that Indian residents are in a rush to visit the devastated city to meet family as many airliners reported fully-booked flights.
