Egypt’s National Seismic Network, affiliated with the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, recorded a magnitude 5.12 earthquake on Saturday, approximately 466 kilometres northwest of Marsa Matruh.

The institute reported that the earthquake occurred at 12:37:29 p.m. local time at a depth of 44.8 kilometres.

It noted that no reports had been received of residents feeling the tremor and confirmed that no casualties or property damage had been recorded.
