Court adjourns Illegal fund raising case

Manama : The Lower Criminal Court yesterday adjourned the hearing of an illegal fund raising case until September 7 for review.

The two accused are the Head of the Islamic Enlightenment Society’s (Al-Taweya) Board of Directors and his deputy. Both of them have been accused of raising funds without a licence.

The first defendant has been accused of using the society’s bank account to make banking transactions with suspicious foreign sources.

He also opened several bank accounts for collecting funds and failed to declare the source of the money in an effort to avert facing any legal actions.

Prosecutors said the first defendant raised a total amount of BD55,000.
