LONDON: King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived in Washington on Monday for a historic four-day state visit, proceeding with the trip despite a shooting at a White House gala just two days prior. The visit is primarily intended to honor the deep-rooted ties between the two nations as the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary.

The meticulously planned itinerary includes a state dinner, tea with President Donald Trump and Melania, and a visit to the 9/11 memorial in New York. A major highlight will occur on Tuesday when King Charles becomes the first British monarch to address the US Congress since 1991.

While diplomatic tensions over the Iran war and domestic controversies persist, British and American officials remain confident in the state visit’s security. President Trump expressed optimism that the visit would strengthen the "special relationship" during this significant anniversary year.
