Bahrain regulates integrative medicine

Manama : At least two years of practical experience is one of the prerequisites for obtaining license in the field of alternative medicine, it was announced.

This is as per the rules and regulations defining the practice of alternative medicine issued yesterday.

National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) CEO Dr Mariam Al Jalahma said Edict 33/2016 was published for the first time in the country to regulate the terms and conditions of licensing for practitioners, technicians, establishments and facilities to engage in these specialties, their classification and the definition of their technical powers.

The decree defines the legally permissible professions of alternative medicine in Bahrain, including cupping and other traditional Arabian medicine, Chinese acupuncture, Indian medicine, therapeutic massage, orthopaedics, and other specialties.

Annex Two associated with this decree defines the required qualifications and classifications of physicians, practitioners and technicians, Dr Al Jalahma added.
