BACA mourns architect Zaha Hadid’s death

Manama: Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) yesterday mourned the demise of international architect Zaha Hadid who passed away on Thursday at the age of
65.

BACA President Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa said in a press statement that “the entire world lost a person who was able to convert art into a language understood by all and used urban development as a link between the people of the world.” Shaikha Mai revealed that the touch of Zaha Hadid would be remembered in the Kingdom of Bahrain as she designed the new state-of-the-art Muharraq Museum of Modern Arts building.

BACA President said the project is supported by Arcapita Bank within the “investment in culture” projects. She added that Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa had earlier directed to establish the museum as the first Bahraini arts museum and comes within the responsibilities of BACA.

The Iraq-born Briton died following a heart attack on Thursday in a Miami hospital, where she was being treated for bronchitis, said reports.

She designed some of the most innovative buildings across the globe, including in countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States of America, Qatar, Lebanon and China, winning her many international recognition awards.
