Arrested doctor to appear before court on Thursday

Manama : The Public Prosecution yesterday announced that it completed the interrogation of a female doctor who was arrested last month for conducting illegal abortions at a private hospital. The expatriate doctor will appear before the Lower Criminal Court on Thursday, Ministries and Public Institutions Prosecution Head General Attorney Mamdouh Al Ma’awda confirmed in a statement.

DT News had reported earlier that the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) was tipped-off by the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science about an Asian female doctor who was conducting illegal abortions at a private hospital.

The doctor was arrested after a warrant was issued by the Public Prosecution, which searched the residence of the accused. Assorted abortion drugs and cash in different currencies were also confiscated during the search.

However, no details were revealed about the identity of the doctor, who remained in custody since then, or the private hospital she worked in.
