California: Tech billionaire Elon Musk has sparked a massive online row after tweeting that ‘Instagram is for girls,’ triggering widespread public backlash and accusations of sexism.

The controversy intensified after Musk joked about men sharing profiles on the app, drawing immediate scrutiny across social platforms. Public reaction quickly split down the middle.

Detractors heavily criticized the remarks as offensive and harmful, labeling them part of an ongoing pattern of behavior targeting women. Meanwhile, supporters defended the comments as harmless satire meant to highlight the cultural differences between X and Instagram rather than express genuine prejudice.
