An expat could not travel to India for his engagement because of a travel ban slapped on him without his knowledge, it has been claimed.

Twenty eight-year-old Rajavel Suresh Acharya, who is a sales executive in Delmon Optics, lodged a complaint with the Indian Embassy yesterday stating a leading telecommunication company has slapped a travel ban on him, as he has not paid over BD 600 towards a phone bill.

Rajavel said he lost his CPR and driving license in June last year and had lodged a complaint with the Naim police station on the same.

“It seems after one week somebody used my CPR and other documents to buy two smartphones. I was shocked when I got a call from Zain, asking me to pay the bill. If I default, they said they would impose a travel ban,” he said.

He said the bill amount is increasing as somebody is still using it. “I could not go to India for my engagement last month as I did not know the ban was imposed.

He claimed the signature on the purchase documents match with his own. Also, the age provided in the document was 72 instead of 28, and no proper email ID was also provided. He said he now seems to be trapped in Bahrain due to no mistake of his own.

The Indian embassy officials said they would give all legal assistance to Rajavel to fight the case.
