United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has issued an urgent appeal to prevent the resumption of hostilities in Gaza, warning that renewed conflict would lead to devastating consequences.

“We must avoid at all costs the resumption of hostilities in Gaza that would lead to an immense tragedy,” Guterres stated.

The UN chief called on Hamas to proceed with the planned release of hostages scheduled for Saturday, emphasizing the importance of fulfilling commitments under the ceasefire agreement. He also urged both parties to fully abide by their obligations and return to serious negotiations in Doha to advance the second phase of peace efforts.

Guterres’ remarks come amid growing international pressure to sustain the fragile ceasefire and seek a long-term resolution to the crisis.
