A parliamentarian has recently urged the Bahrain government to boycott the countries that allow insulting Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
This was stated on Tuesday, during Parliament Council weekly session, chaired by the council’s speaker Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al Mulla and attended by Foreign Affairs Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa.
Referring to French Magazine Charlie Hebdo, which published insulting drawings of the prophet, MP Dr. Majeed Al Asfoor said, “I’m not certain about the amount of commercial trade between Bahrain and France, yet I say let’s boycott them so the insult doesn’t get repeated.”
The MP previously inquired the Minister about the measures and procedures taken by Foreign Affairs Ministry against the insult heaped by the French magazine on the Prophet.
In the Minister’s reply, it was mentioned that the Ministry had issued several statements, rejecting the disgraceful act of disrespecting Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Minister stressed that “the continuation of such behaviours contribute in spreading hate, extremism and terrorism.”
“The Foreign Ministry also requested media to be objective and respect all beliefs and religions. We have repeatedly stressed that media should separate the freedom of expression from insulting religions to maintain coexistence and peace among the people,” the Foreign Minister explained.
On the other hand, Dr. Al Asfoor said that authorities continually condemn such incidents, but there is no guarantee that they would be stopped. “Soon we hear about another insult to our beloved Prophet,” he commented.
“France has condemned the insult of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the magazine was shut-down. We’re all Muslims and share the same rejection to such insults, but official boycotting isn’t the appropriate solution,” Shaikh Khalid replied.
