Minister honours Innovation contest winners

Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Oil Minister, yesterday honoured the winners of the first edition of the Innovation Contest praising their creativity in providing research and chemical innovations “We are proud of the students who are strong and eager to develop various sectors in the Arab countries,” the Minister said highlighting the importance of innovation and research in the development. The contest came under the activities of the GPCA Innovation and Research Summit held from March 13-14.

Athari Muhammed Al Hosni from Caledonian College of Engineering of the National University of Science and Technology in Oman won first place in the competition and a cash prize of AED 10,000 for ‘Production of polymers from sulfur solid waste’. Hebatallah Humaid Al Jabri from the National University of Science and Technology in Oman was awarded second place and a cash prize of AED 6,000 for his work in ‘Application of nanotechnology in corrosion inhibition of oil pipelines’.

The jury awarded third place and a cash prize of AED 4,000 to Hussain Al-Ibrahim from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia for his ‘Design integration of gasification and reforming technologies for the syngas production.’
