Maldives, Bahrain announce air travel deal

Maldives and Bahrain signed an air travel agreement on Wednesday in Montreal, Canada, said a report by Avas. Transport Minister Aishath Nahula and Transportation and Telecommunication Minister of Bahrain Kamal binAhmed Mohamed signed the deal. The signing took place on the sidelines of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)’s General Assembly currently ongoing.

The deal follows a Memorandum of Understanding established between the two countries on January 18, 1995. Gulf Air, the report said, has requested for approval to begin operation to the Maldives. The airline will begin flights between the two countries on October 28 this year, with six weekly flights operating via Male’-Bahrain and Male’-Colombo-Bahrain route.
