The Lower Criminal Court has sentenced a domestic servant to six months in prison for robbery.
The defendant is said to have stolen gold pieces, clothes and accessories from her sponsor. She had been serving a woman in her 60’s and her daughter.
Her crime was found when she attempted to steal the daughter’s mobile phone.
“We usually give our phones to her twice a week to call up her family. Last time, when I gave my cellphone, she didn’t return it. To my query, she initially said that she put it in the toilet,” the daughter told prosecutors.
“It was not there in the toilet. When I repeatedly asked her, she revealed that she put it in her bag,” the daughter added in her statement.
The daughter found the phone in the bag along with other valuables stolen by the housemaid.
“I found gold pieces were tailored inside the clothes so that they don’t get noticed,” the daughter added. The maid will be deported once she completes her jail term.
