Lawmaker calls to appoint more govt doctors

Only three government-employed doctors are available to serve a population of over 10,000 people in the third constituency of the Northern Governorate, it was claimed. A new health center and more doctors are needed to meet the health care needs of people in Budaiya and Jasrah, according to MP Abdullah Al Dosari.

The representative for the third constituency of the Northern Governorate said that the people there have been demanding for a health center for a long time now. He urged the Ministry of Health to speed up the procedure to build a health center for the constituency. “Currently, the public health facilities in areas including Budaiya and Jasrah is not up to the mark. As of now, there is only a clinic where there are just three doctors.

“The clinic is a modest one without many facilities and it is not able to cater to the needs of 10,700 people registered there. “There are 3,600 people for each doctor while according to the established standards there should be at least one doctor for every 2,000 people,” he said. According to the Ministry of Health, efforts to build a health center in the area is being delayed due to lack of availability of land.
