New Delhi: Shapoor Zadran, former Afghanistan fast bowler, died at the age of 38 after battling a rare and severe immune system disease while undergoing treatment at a New Delhi hospital. The Afghanistan Cricket Board reported that he died on Tuesday, only one day before his 39th birthday.

Zadran, a left-arm fast bowler, was a key figure in Afghanistan's international cricket history. From 2009 to 2020, he played in 80 international matches for his country, including 44 One-Day Internationals and 36 Twenty20 Internationals. He is most known for scoring the winning boundary in Afghanistan's first Cricket World Cup victory over Scotland in 2015.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board honoured Zadran as one of the ‘foundation-laying figures’ of Afghan cricket, recognising his dedication and contribution in establishing the national squad on a global scale. Tributes have come in from all across the cricketing globe, mourning the death of one of Afghanistan's early cricket legends.
