Expatriates in Bahrain may be required to present qualification certificates

The House of Representatives yesterday approved a bill to amend the 2006 Labour Market Regulatory Law, which aims to set a condition for the issuance of work permits to foreign workers.

Under the proposal, presented by five MPs, led by first vice-chairman Abdulnabi Salman, expatriates will be required to present genuine academic and university qualification certificates to prove their eligibility to carry out specific roles.

The parliamentary proposal will be referred to the government for review and approval.
