The body of Indian fisherman, who was shot dead by Iranian sea pirates, was sent to his homeland yesterday. Sources informed that the body of Antony Arul Anish, 21, was flown to the South Indian city of Thiruvananthapuram at 2pm.

The body of Anish was kept at the morgue of King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) in Muharraq. He was shot dead by the sea pirates while fishing along with five other fishermen.

They had reportedly left the fishing base of Qatar on August 6. When the pirates opened fire at them, the fishermen fled to the Bahraini waters, seeking help.

Later, the Bahrain Coast Guard airlifted the injured fisherman to KHUH, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Immediately after his death, his relatives from Enayamputhenthurai in Kanyakumari District of Tamil Nadu in India contacted the fishermen helpline volunteers, seeking the help to send his body soon.

DT News had reported on August 18 about the trauma of the deceased fisherman’s hapless family members.

Bahrain–Kanyakumari Congress President Thoothoor Shalo and Secretary Marthandamthura Francis Xavier thanked the Indian Embassy officials, Indian Community Relief Fund (ICRF) volunteers, who took initiatives to repatriate the body back to India.
