After leading Ahli United Bank (AUB) for two decades, Adel El-Labban has announced his departure from the position of Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of Ahli United Bank.

During his tenure, El-Labban was twice named CEO of the Year – Middle East by EMEA Finance, received a Lifetime Achievement Award from The Banker Middle East, and was named Arab Banker of the Year 2009 by the Union of Arab Banks.

In 2015, the Arab Bankers Association UK recognised his “Distinguished Services to Arab Banking”.

El-Labban played a key role in the creation of Ahli United Bank, contributing to the merger between United Bank of Kuwait PLC (UBK) and AlAhli Commercial Bank B.S.C (ACB) that resulted in the emergence of AUB in 2000, and was fully involved in all its subsequent acquisition deals.

From this nucleus, he went on to build a regional financial powerhouse spanning three continents and eight countries, namely; Bahrain, UK, UAE, Egypt, Kuwait, Iraq, Libya, and Oman.

Under his leadership, AUB won several awards, solidifying its position as a leading financial institution in the region.
