Education Minister, Dr. Majid Al Nuaimi yesterday officially inaugurated the new campus of Asian School at Tubli. Later, the minister toured the state-of-art campus, in the presence of Indian Embassy Counsellor, Ram Singh and other dignitaries.
Speaking to DT News, Joseph Thomas, Chairman of the school, said that it was a proud moment of him as the institution had achieved a major milestone in attaining best infrastructural facilities for the students. The school, founded on May 11, 1983, by Joseph Thomas and Bahraini national Ghuloom Ahmed Abbas, has grown beyond expectations, said the chairman of the school.
“The school began with a strength of 65 children and 3 teachers and today has about 3350 students strong with over 170 staff members. The Asian School began functioning as a Kindergarten in a villa in Um Al Hassam. As the school grew, it moved to a new campus in Um Al Hassam. When the number of students increased further a new building was leased in Juffair and the Junior Section was moved to Juffair and the Senior Section at Um Al Hassam. Now, a significant milestone in the
history of The Asian School has been reached as the school moves to its brand new single campus in Tubli with both the junior and senior sections together under one roof,” said Joseph Thomas.
The school, affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, India, is set in a sprawling campus measuring over eight acres, housing 110 fully fledged classrooms, state of the art science laboratories, math lab, an increased number of computer laboratories, and a larger well stocked library. Along with this, plans for additional facilities such as smart boards are under way. In addition to this, the school has a spacious auditorium that accommodates around 2500 people.
The multi-purpose hall also boasts of an indoor basketball court, an indoor volleyball/throwball court, four indoor badminton courts, table tennis facility and gymnastics area. The school compound has a regulation football ground, three basketball courts, three volleyball/throwball courts, one tennis court and a long jump/high jump pit. There is an outdoor stage to accommodate an audience of over 5000. The kindergarten section has a special shaded play area, covered
by the school building on three sides and fitted with playground equipment. “The management hopes that the school will reach new heights of excellence with the additional facilities provided at the sprawling new campus,” said the Chairman of the school.
