Fines totalling up to BD11,300 have been imposed on merchants here for violating Consumer Protection Acts.

According to the Public Prosecution, courts have fined 23 merchants between BD100 and BD1,000 for violating laws this year.

The Consumer Protection Department has issued 65 notifications to the Public Prosecution about merchants who have refused to replace or restore defective goods, refund consumers, or compensate for deficiencies in services.

The fines are expected to increase as several cases are still pending before the court.
