Car robbers’ jail term reduced

Two defendants involved in a car robbery have had their sentences revised on appeals. One of them had his jail term reduced from three years to four months, while his co-appellant had his jail time commuted to four months from one year.

Two other defendants involved in the case have had their appeals rejected. Investigating officers told the court that they found the suspects after reviewing security cameras close to Hidd police station area as most of the complaints were from that area. “We saw one of the reported vehicles on a tow car heading towards Isa Town.” “Thus, we arrested the owner who told us that there were others helping him,” the officer explained to judges at the High Appeals Court. The gang’s activities lasted for two years, from 2017- 2018, during which they stole several cars from all around Bahrain.

“We were disassembling cars after robbing them. Sometimes we change the vin and we sell the car as one unit. Other times, we were selling the valuable pieces of the stolen vehicle,” he added. “Many of the parts were sold outside Bahrain. We were dismantling the vehicles in a car workshop owned by the third defendant,” the fourth suspect told prosecutors. “We also shipped several stolen cars outside Bahrain after changing their vin,” he added.
