Twenty-one Pakistanis died after a passenger bus fell from a winding mountain road in the valley of northern Pakistan.

"The cause of the accident is unknown, and rescue workers are still trying to retrieve the wounded and the dead and take them to a nearby hospital," said spokesman for Gilgit district in Tastan, Faizullah Farik, noting that \"the bus was heading to Skardu town in Gilgit district of Tastan from Rawalpindi."

Skardu is a gateway to the K-2 mountain, the highest peak in the world after Mount Everest, which is also part of the Himalayas. Skardu is about 240 kilometers north of the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, and attracts large numbers of domestic and foreign tourists annually .
