London, United Kingdom: Best-selling British author and former politician Jeffrey Archer has died suddenly and peacefully at his home aged 86, his publisher HarperCollins announced on Monday.
The prolific writer, praised by editor Kate Elton as a ‘master storyteller,’ sold over 300 million copies of his books worldwide throughout a career spanning 50 years.
Archer initially rose to prominence after joining the Conservative Party while studying at Oxford University, winning a by-election to become a member of Parliament at age 29.
Following a severe financial setback, he launched his blockbuster writing career by turning his personal experience into his 1975 debut novel, ‘Not A Penny More, Not A Penny Less’.
Days after signing books for fans in London, he was set to present his final novel, ‘Adam and Eve,’ at the Cheltenham Literary Festival ahead of its Tuesday publication.
