Beach clean-up drive to attract more people

In what is expected to be one of the largest beach clean- up drives, a group of activists will be tidying up a beach in Nurana Island on Saturday.

The activists, who call themselves ‘Bahrain beachcombers’, will be out on the shores of the Nurana Island to clean it up. The group will take photos of the garbage dumped on the beach by fishermen, in order to highlight the issue to the concerned authorities as well as the general public.

Bahrain Beachcombers founder Darren Schneder said the rubbish had accumulated there for long. “When we clean the beach we do not usually clean the area where the fishermen’s boats are located because it is far from the general area of the beach. But this time, we will clean it and photograph the garbage so that we can spread awareness on the issue. We expect to collect 300 to 400 bags of rubbish,” he said.
