Bapco Energies and ACWA Power Forge 2.8 GW Cross-Border Sustainable Future

In a monumental step toward achieving a sustainable and diversified energy future, Bapco Energies of Bahrain and ACWA Power of Saudi Arabia have announced a landmark strategic alliance. This joint development agreement focuses on creating one of the largest cross-border clean energy projects in the region, set to have an expected generation capacity of up to 2.8 gigawatts (GW).

The partnership is a bold move designed to significantly support Bahrain’s national commitment to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2035, aligning perfectly with the nation’s ambitious Economic Vision 2030.

The core of this strategic project involves the development of a major energy storage technology facility in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. This facility will establish a vital energy corridor, delivering clean, renewable power from Saudi Arabia directly to Bahrain. This innovative cross-border energy flow is expected to be instrumental in meeting Bahrain’s national energy demands and accelerating its transition to cleaner sources.

“This milestone marks a significant chapter in our journey toward energy diversification and regional collaboration. By working hand in hand with ACWA Power, we aim to secure Bahrain’s long-term energy security while unleashing the potential of renewable solutions," stated Mark Thomas, Group CEO of Bapco Energies.

The project is a turning point in Bahrain’s national energy strategy, reinforcing Bapco Energies’ focus on demand efficiency, energy mix diversification, and secure, affordable access to power, while the initiative solidifies Saudi Arabia’s role as a global energy exporter and is fully aligned with the pillars of Saudi Vision 2030 to diversify its energy and income sources.
