Bahrain’s national handball team will face Qatar in the final of the 10th Arab Men’s Handball Championship today after powering past hosts Kuwait 29-24 in Friday’s semi-final.
Held at the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex in Kuwait City, Bahrain dominated early proceedings, racing to a 17-9 lead by half-time. Their trademark defensive discipline and sharp ball movement overwhelmed the home side, who failed to recover from the early deficit.
Mohammed Habib produced a standout performance, excelling at both ends of the court and earning Player of the Match honours. Led by veteran captain Hussain Al-Sayyad, Bahrain kept their composure during a brief Kuwaiti fightback in the second half and saw the match out with confidence.
The tournament, held from May 5 to 11, features nine top Arab nations. Bahrain topped Group A after back-to-back wins over Iraq (28-26) and Egypt (36-32) to reach the semi-finals.
Today’s final pits Bahrain against regional giants Qatar, who advanced with a win over Egypt in the other semi-final. With both sides boasting strong tournament pedigree, the clash promises to be a fascinating battle for Arab supremacy.
