Arab Quartet commitment stressed

A Bahrain delegation, headed by UN Office permanent representative and other international organizations in Geneva Ambassador Yusuf Abdulkarim Bucheeri, spoke on behalf of the Arab Quartet—the four countries supporting the fight against terrorism, namely Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and Bahrain.

It was within the framework of the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights, within the agenda of the Human Rights Council being held at the UN Palace in Geneva until October 6.

Special Rapporteur Alina Dohan was told by the Arab Quartet’s participating experts that private customary international law on the responsibility of states justifies taking countermeasures, which may in other cases be considered illegal, by a state affected by an internationally wrongful act perpetrated by another state. It is the position that the International Law Commission later codified to limit the excessive misuse of the concept of unilateral coercive measures for political or propagandistic purposes.
