The High Criminal Court has adjourned the trial of three Bahraini men accused of kidnapping two fellow countrymen, until January 5 to hear witnesses.
The trio, 27,29,40, reportedly abducted the duo following a dispute on an illegal drug trade deal, according to court files.
One of the kidnapped men allegedly pocketed BD2,200 paid by one of the trio who wanted to buy a large quantity of hashish from him.
He allegedly delayed in handing over the drugs to him, prompting the trio to abduct him with his friend who was with him at that time when the defendants approached him. The duo were kept in a Sanad stable for one night, where they had been reportedly menaced by a surly dog.
“They told me if I want to go home I have to contact one of my relatives to make arrangements to return the money,” the victim involved in the drug deal told the prosecutors.
“I contacted my brother, and they told him to meet them near Sitra Mall to hand them over the money,” he added.
His brother reported the matter to the police who planned an ambush to arrest the alleged captors while receiving the money.
However, the trio didn’t show up because ‘they felt’ that they were being surveyed by the police.
They were eventually nabbed after the alleged victims were released from their captivity and informed the police about their whereabouts, according to the court files.
