Study Links Problematic Social Media Use to ADHD

A recent study conducted in Lebanon has found a significant link between problematic social media use (PSMU) and increased symptoms of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in adults. The research indicates that high-stimulation platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook may negatively impact users\' ability to focus, with anxiety acting as a key mediator.

The study revealed that higher levels of compulsive social media engagement correlate with a greater likelihood of experiencing ADHD symptoms. Researchers suggest that the rapid content consumption and constant notifications associated with social media might disrupt sustained attention and encourage hyper-vigilance for novelty. This research highlights a concerning relationship among PSMU, anxiety, and ADHD symptoms. The authors recommend awareness campaigns to inform the public about the psychological risks of excessive social media use.
