PM directed to investigate the recent waste crises

Manama : Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa directed to investigate the recent waste crises and take the necessary legal measures against the parties involved.

This came in the weekly Cabinet meeting held yesterday in Gudaibiya palace.

During the meet, a detailed presentation on the matter presented by Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf was reviewed.

The presentation included the reasons behind the issue and the responsibilities of the previous and the new cleaning companies responsible of cleaning the Southern and Northern Govrnorates.

Khalaf explained the urgent procedures taken to contain the problem.

HRH Prince Khalifa instructed to take immediate actions to resolve the waste accumulation issue in both governorates.

This followed a ten-day crises after the assignments of cleaning the Southern and Northern Governorates was tasked to a new company.

The new Spanish company Urbaser failed to dispose of waste in the several areas due to lack of staff and equipment.

Additionally, conspiracy accusations were exchanged between both the new and previous companies, while trash accumulated in both areas.

The authorities promised to end the situations soon, but it continued for more than 10 days.
