Copenhagen, Denmark: Hackers stole personal data belonging to roughly 8.8 million people after breaching Denmark’s national registry, the digital affairs ministry announced on Monday.

The administration of the national database discovered that unauthorised individuals had obtained illegal access to system records. The compromised files in particular include critical personal information, specifically names, home addresses, and CPR social security numbers.

According to official statements, the exposed registry contains records for a broad cross-section of registered individuals. The ministry confirmed that the compromised data also includes records belonging to people who have died or emigrated.
