MUSLIMS GROW, SO DO ATHEISTS IN UK

United Kingdom seems to be a bundle of contradictions. Wonder why? A new study confirms that Islam is the fast growing religion in the country. Same time, the study also confirmed the number of people who do not believe in God rose to 24.7 million last year compared to the figure of 12.8 million as back as 1983!

The new research also shows how fewer people are becoming the members of the Church of England, which lost 2 million followers during the last two years. Meanwhile, Muslims in Britain grew by a million for the same period, finds NatCen’s British Social Attitudes Survey.

The study confirms that the biggest group in UK remained people who say they have no religion, accounting for around half (49%) of all people in UK. The population of people who say they have no religion is up from 31% in 1983 and 43% a decade ago.

The NatCen's survey shows the proportion of British adults who say they are Anglican fell from 40% in 1983 to 17% in 2014. The shift in trend is the most dramatic over the past decade.
