In a bizarre theft, a burglar stole a gold chain from an apartment in Capital Governorate but left behind his phone number along with keys of his luxury residence. No wonder, the thief was easily landed in the police net.
On Wednesday, the Interior Ministry announced that a man was arrested for stealing gold. “Capital Police: Within half-an-hour a man was arrested for breaking in a flat and stealing a gold chain. Legal procedures were taken,” the Ministry stated.
However, the victim revealed that the burglar left behind the keys of his apartment, its address as well as his phone number. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning in Manama.
“I heard a scream and I saw my wife crying and pointing to the door. I saw a tall man opening the door and walking out,” house owner Anthony said.
His wife informed him that the man was attempting to steal a wallet before he was spotted by her.
“She could see this man holding my wallet kept near the bed. Suddenly, she tried to alert the watchman,” he said, adding, “Initially, we searched the home and found nothing stolen. We had seen him gone out empty handed. Suddenly I realised that my gold chain was in my wallet. Before we could catch him, he had gone,” he added.
“The wallet was intact and other valuables were in place. Some of our clothes and bags were left scattered. Later, we also found a key of an apartment with room number and phone number left behind by the thief,” Anthony explained.
He lodged a complaint with the police following which the police turned up and collected the evidence from the apartment. The CCTV visuals were also analysed by the police officers. The police were able to arrest the robber within a short period of time.
“The intruder was a Saudi man, who was in search of money. He has been put behind bars,” he informed.
